Finally arrived!
Went straight from Kansai Airport to Okayama and then to Momotaro. Daisuke and his staff were very busy harvesting nisai out of one of the 500 ton concrete ponds.Amazing koi!The size of the fish was impressive-there was a nisai showa over 65cm,and many well over 60cm!Most of the koi had been put aside for the Auction coming up on the 19th of November, but I did manage to select a few in the short time I had.
Diasuke and staff harvesting 500 ton pond-
Two Kohakus selected-amazing skin quality-
Inazuma Sanke -special pattern-
The famous 1 000 000 liter Momotaro pond-
Daisuke sexing the koi-Max from Harbour Koi Singapore looking on-
Another Kohaku selected-just under 60cm!
Interestingly his best big koi are kept in his 100 ton ponds-easier to monitor and manage. The Showa in the front is not yet 5 years old and is already 90cm (the small nisai maruten Sanke on the left was the most expensive koi at the last auction, gives an indication of the size of the Showas). This koi won best Showa in its size at the All Japan this year-will be well over 90cm at the next All Japan and has great skin quality, one to watch-
Four-and-a-half and over 90cm!!-
Momotaro bred his 110cm Konishi Karashigoi with a huge ogon in June-already these "fry" are nearly 30cm!He reckons many will be over 50cm as tosai-
Looking forward to spending some more time and selecting more koi at Momotaro next week.
On my way to Hiroshima now, looking forward to Sakai tomorrow and the next day.Have 2 Sanke tosai and a nisai I bought at the March Auction being harvested and I still have to photograph the koi bought at the auction last month:-
